Van Honthorst, surnommé aussi, en italien, Gherardo delle Notti (« Gérard des Nuits ») (Utrecht, 4 novembre 1590, id., 27 avril 1656), est un peintre de genre et d'histoire et un portraitiste néerlandais (Provinces-Unies) du siècle d’or. Réputé de son vivant, il reçut des commandes notamment de Frédéric V et Élisabeth, roi et reine de Bohême en exil aux Pays-Bas, de Charles Ier d'Angleterre et Christian IV de Danemark, avant de devenir peintre de cour de Guillaume II d'Orange-Nassau.
