copyright: © Giovanni Antonio Canal (Venise, 7 octobre 1697 - Venise, 19 avril 1768), mieux connu sous le nom de Canaletto, est célèbre pour ses panoramas (vedute) de Venise. Il est considéré, avec Bernardo Bellotto et Francesco Guardi, comme le représentant le plus significatif du « védutisme » italien (ou peinture de paysages urbains). Ses vedute prennent quelques libertés avec la stricte réalité, avec des modifications de la perspectives et des déformations de certains bâtiments afin d'améliorer la composition globale de ses tableaux. Il n'était d'ailleurs sans doute pas le seul auteur des nombreux tableaux qu'il a produit. copyright: © The Most Honourable Order of the Bath was established as a military order by Letters Patent of George I on 18 May 1725, when the Dean of Westminster was made Dean of the Order in perpetuity and King Henry VII's Chapel designated as the Chapel of the Order. However, the Order was a revival of an older custom going back to medieval times when part of the ceremony of knighthood included a ritual bath symbolic of spiritual purification and a vigil the night before receiving the honour.
